Message from the Chairman
Welcome to the Department of Urology at Hackensack University Medical Center. I am proud to introduce you to the department and to the exceptional board-certified and board-eligible urologists who make up our faculty practice and medical staff. Urology is the medical specialty that concerns the urinary systems of both men and women and the reproductive system of men. Urology combines the medical care of patients as well as the surgical treatment of many kinds of urologic diseases and disorders. Many of our urologists have completed advanced training (fellowships) in subspecialties, including urologic oncology (cancer), laparoscopy, robotic surgery, endourology, and pediatric urology. Because of Hackensack University Medical Center’s renowned reputation for innovation and quality and our achievements in research and patient care, the Department of Urology attracts leading medical talent from all over the world to our faculty and medical staff. A collegial atmosphere and state-of-the-art technology and facilities enable urologists here to attain the best in urologic patient care. Educating the next generation of physicians is a priority for the Department of Urology, and it keeps our urologists up to date on the latest medical advances. Hackensack University Medical Center is a major affiliate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School, whose medical students and urology residents rotate here for their clinical and research training. Each year we have three residents at the medical center and one fellow (in endourology, laparoscopy, and robotic surgery). We also have affiliations with a number of colleges and universities, whose students of nursing, physical therapy, laboratory sciences, radiology, and other health care professions rotate here for their clinical practicums. Our clinical research in robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy has garnered international interest by our peers, as has our research in other areas of urology, including urologic oncology, renal (kidney) diseases, endourology, and laparoscopy. Recent honors achieved by urologists in the Department of Urology include an honorable mention for research from the 2006 American Urological Association’s Annual Audiovisual Awards and listings in “Top Doctors” (New Jersey Monthly magazine), “Best Doctors in New York” (New York magazine), and “Best Doctors in America.” The medical center’s focus on quality – which has garnered a number of prestigious recognitions, including the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Award and a HealthGrades five-star rating – translates into outstanding care for patients of all ages. Best regards, Ihor S.
