What We Do

Technological breakthroughs and advances in medical knowledge over the years have led to a dramatic increase in the survival rates for people with colon cancer.

One of our best defenses against the disease is early detection so your physician can intervene at a point when the disease is most receptive to treatment.

The Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all stages of colon cancer and benign conditions of the colon and rectum that require surgical correction. Other conditions treated include diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s Disease, hemorrhoids, and fissures that require removal or repair of the affected portion of the bowel.

Services include:

  • Transrectal Ultrasound
  • Laparoscopic colectomy
  • Minimally invasive rectal cancer excision, where appropriate
  • Right colectomy
  • Transverse colectomy
  • Left colectomy
  • Sigmoid colectomy
  • Low anterior resection
  • Abdominal perineal resection
  • Diagnostic sigmoidoscopy
  • M2A capsule endoscopy
In order to provide the best possible care for our patients, The Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery takes a multidisciplinary approach to treatment by working closely with the patient’s gastroenterologists, chemotherapists, radiation oncologists and other relevant professionals.

In an effort to promote early detection and intervention, and to encourage the community to take an active role in ensuring their own health, the division works closely with the Colon Cancer Prevention Center at Hackensack University Medical Center to provide educational programs and screenings.
