Proper treatment can minimize the adverse effects of mental illness on their lives and the lives of those who love them. We strive to help children in an understanding and compassionate atmosphere. Our highly skilled child psychiatric care workers are prepared to meet any need that your child or adolescent may have.

Child and family outpatient services at Hackensack University Medical Center is a comprehensive outpatient mental health program for children, adolescents and their families. Our team of child psychiatrists, clinical social workers and other mental health professionals provides psychiatric evaluations and group, family and individual therapy for children from 4 to 18 years of age.




WHAT WE DO

The Child and Adolescent Outpatient Program is a traditional outpatient service for children and adolescents from 3 to 18 years of age and their families. We provide services for a wide range of childhood and adolescent psychiatric disorders including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Depression, Anxiety and School Avoidance issues. The services offered include family, group and individual psycotherapy as well as medication follow-up by a psychiatrist. Specialty programs offered include: Parenting Skills Groups, Cognitive Behavior Therapy for children and adolescents, groups for children with ADHD and their parents

The Intensive Outpatient Afterschool Program serves less acutely ill children between 11 and 17 years of age. It meets nine hours per week after school. The Intensive Outpatient Program provides group, family and individual therapy for children who need a more traditional setting. Youngsters with substance abuse issues, as well as children with combined substance and psychiatric problems, are treated in this program.

The Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program provides an all-day treatment for acutely ill children ages 13 to 17 years of age. We provide school, group and individual therapy, along with medication supervision every day except hospital holidays and weekends.

The Hackensack High School Drop-In Center is a crisis intervention program that provides short-term counseling and referral services for students at Hackensack High School. It also provides transitional programming for students at Hackensack High School. Transitional programming is also available for transferring students and 9th grade students entering from Hackensack Middle School. Operating in conjunction with the Hackensack Board of Education and the New Jersey Department of Human Services, the center is located on the first floor at Hackensack High School, First and Beech Streets, Hackensack.
