All aspects of cosmetic surgery are performed within the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery’s ambulatory care center, a private facility located on the ninth floor of the medical center’s Medical Arts Plaza. BEYOND, a day spa, accommodates patients needing pre- and post-operative treatments. This beautiful spa, located next to the ambulatory care center, provides services not available at other medical facilities.

Face Lifts
Technological advances and a better understanding of the aging process enable plastic surgeons to rejuvenate the face and neck without patients looking like they were operated upon. Scars are shorter, recovery time is less, and results are improved. Surgeons customize each procedure to the patient’s needs to achieve a superior outcome. A face lift, which almost always incorporates a neck lift, treats the deep wrinkles of the face as well as the skin of the neck. A face lift usually involves an incision beginning in the scalp above the ear, continuing immediately in front of the ear and extending around and behind the ear and just inside the hairline behind the ear. The excess skin of the face and neck is elevated, and the excess is removed. The superficial muscle layer just under the skin is also tightened to rejuvenate the face and neck.

Patients undergoing face lifts often opt for brow lifting procedures that can be performed at the same time utilizing small endoscopes inserted through small incisions in the hairline. The first signs of aging are often noticed around the eyes, an eyelidplasty may also be performed as a separate procedure or at the same time as a face and/or brow lift. Although external incisions are usually required for the upper eyelid, they are well-hidden and not easily visible. Lower eyelid “bags” can be removed without external excisions. Wrinkling and grooves around the eyes are best treated with a laser or BOTOX®.

Rhinoplasty (nose surgery)
Rhinoplasty changes a person’s appearance more than any other procedure. The nose is the key element in facial balance. Through surgical planning using photographs or computer images, each patient can understand how the final result will look before they undergo the surgery.

Facial, Cheek, or Chin Implants
Facial, cheek, or chin implants can balance weak features on the face and improve appearance. The placement of implants can be performed from the inside of the mouth to avoid external scars. Implants using new, more natural-feeling materials are now available, which result in superior results.

Lip Augmentation
Lip augmentation is a very popular procedure. Using a new generation of injectable materials, the surgeon can achieve excellent results.

Otoplasty
Otoplasty can correct protruding ears by reshaping the contour of the existing cartilage. Because children’s ears are fully developed by age 6, otoplasty is performed around this time to correct the problem.

Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation with saline (salt water) implants is a medically safe procedure. When saline implants are placed under the chest muscle, a natural-appearing breast contour is achieved, which allows for normal mammograms and a lower risk of encapsulation (hardening). Incisions are placed around the nipples, under the breast, or in the armpit. Patients usually return to work about one week later.

Breast Reduction
Breast reduction procedures can improve appearance as well as reduce back and neck pain. New techniques result in shorter, less visible scars. Patient satisfaction after breast reduction is usually high. Many women have asymmetric breast development and when severe, this can be a major psychological problem. New techniques using tissue expansion and flap reconstruction have made correcting asymmetric breasts easier for patients. Reducing excess breast tissue (gynecomastia) in men without scarring can be achieved using liposuction performed with special instruments.

Abdominoplasty
Many women who have successfully lost a tremendous amount of weight (more than 80 pounds) or those in whom pregnancy has caused a weakness in their abdominal wall muscles and excess fat and skin may opt for abdominoplasty. Using this procedure, the surgeon restores the patient’s normal muscle anatomy and removes excess skin and fat.

Liposuction
Liposuction procedures are designed to remove isolated areas of excess fat collections. Results are best achieved in younger patients, because their skin is more elastic than older persons. Liposuction is rarely performed in patients older than 50. Technological advances have enabled plastic surgeons to recontour areas more precisely, including the arms, back, abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, ankles, and calves. Liposuction is not a replacement for good eating habits and exercise, but it can complement them in improving body shape and contour.
