The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine comprises four fellowship-trained and board certified experts in the field of perinatal medicine. In addition to completing four-year residencies in obstetrics/gynecology, maternal-fetal medicine physicians have also undergone a three-year fellowship with advanced training in the diagnosis, assessment, medical and surgical management of women with high-risk pregnancies. They provide consultation, diagnosis, and treatment in collaboration with patients’ own obstetricians and with a team of specialists at Hackensack University Medical Center, including geneticists, genetic counselors, neonatologists, and perinatal diagnostic technologists. Each year, the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine performs about 12,000 evaluations on pregnant women who present with a whole range of fetal and/or maternal medical conditions that can complicate their pregnancies. These include women carrying multiple fetuses and other conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, renal disease, infections, adnexal masses in pregnancy, cervical insufficiency, pre-maturity, genetic disorders, and/or birth defects.
