HACKENSACK UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER HOSPICE NURSES RECEIVE RECOGNITIONPatricia Puchalik, R.N., BSN, MSN of Washington Township, hospice coordinator at Hackensack University Medical Center, was recently elected as chairperson to the board of The New Jersey Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. She was also appointed as the New Jersey State Nursing Association representative to the board of The Home Health Agency. In 1996, she became the hospice coordinator at the medical center. Now a board member of The American Nurses’ Association New Jersey District level, Ms. Puchalik has been an active member of the association for 27 years.
Two other staff nurses at the Hospice, Carrie Gallorini, R.N. of Ramsey, and Pat Hanrahan, R.N. of Glen Rock, recently passed the national certification exam for hospice nurses. Ms. Gallorini is a graduate of Rutgers University College of Nursing and a long time employee of the medical center. Ms. Hanrahan is a graduate of the Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing and has been at the medical center for nine years. The certification is a four-year certification and acknowledges the nurse’s skills in pain and symptom control, and "end of life care." This is a first-time certification for Ms. Gallorini and a recertification for Ms. Hanrahan.
