MEDICAL CENTER STUDY ON BREAST CANCER
PREVENTION SEEKS PARTICIPANTS

Hackensack University Medical Center has been selected to participate in a breast cancer prevention study sponsored by the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project and supported by the National Cancer Institute. The study will compare the effectiveness of two drugs, Tamoxifen and Raloxifene, in preventing breast cancer in women who have a high risk of developing the disease.

Eligible participants are postmenopausal women over 35 years, with an increased risk for developing breast cancer based on at least one of the following factors:

  • having a mother, daughter, and/or sister who has had breast cancer, or
  • a personal history of benign breast disease that required biopsies, or
  • a personal history of at least one breast biopsy that resulted in a diagnosis of lobular carcinoma in-situ or atypical hyperplasia.

If you or someone you know meets at least one of the above criteria, consider
attending an information session on this important study. The session will
be held on Monday, June 26 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Hekemian Auditorium at
Hackensack University Medical Center, 30 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack. For
further information or to register for this information session, please
contact Kathy Kirn, R.N. at (201) 996-4275.
