MEDICAL CENTER DOCTOR SPEAKS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF CANCER SCREENING AT FASHION SHOW BENEFIT

Gregory J. Gallina, M.D. of Paramus, an assistant attending in the Department of Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, recently addressed the importance of preventive colorectal cancer testing to guests attending a fashion show at Bloomingdale's in Riverside Square, Hackensack.

Those in attendance got a chance to view and purchase items from the Ellen Tracy spring line designed by Linda Allard, with a portion of the evening's sales being donated to The National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance (NCCRA).The NCCRA was founded in 1999 by Katie Couric, Lilly Tartikoff, and the Entertainment Industry Foundation and raises funds to drive research for prevention, education, diagnosis, treatments and ultimately a cure for colorectal cancer.

"Colorectal cancer is the number two cancer killer and affects men and women equally," said Dr. Gallina. "But it is also one of the most curable forms of cancer. It is important for those over the age of forty or that have a family history of colon cancer to have a colonoscopy, which is the most comprehensive tool we have for detecting colon cancer."
