DR. PETER GROSS NAMED AS COUNCILLOR TO INFECTIOUS DISEASES SOCIETY OF AMERICA
Peter Gross, M.D. of Ridgewood, chairman, Department of Internal Medicine at Hackensack University Medical Center was recently named as councillor to the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA).
The IDSA represents more than 5,000 physicians, scientists and other healthcare professionals who work in infectious diseases. The society's mission is to promote and recognize excellence in patient care, education, research, and public awareness as it relates to infectious diseases. The IDSA also works to promote and foster careers in the field of infectious diseases.

"It is a great honor to be elected to the governing body of this society, " said Dr. Gross. "The work the IDSA does is very important and the medical center's own efforts in the arena of infectious diseases can only benefit from this ongoing partnership."
Dr. Gross is a graduate of Amherst College and the Yale University School of Medicine. He completed his internships and residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Harvard's Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. He has held teaching positions at the Columbia University's College of Physicians & Surgeons and is both a professor and vice-chairman in the Department of Medicine at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. He has served as both the hospital epidemiologist and chief of the infectious diseases section at Hackensack University Medical Center.
Dr. Gross has published over 250 original articles and books on influenza vaccine, other immunizations, hospital epidemiology, performance measurement and implementing quality improvement. He is a member of many professional organizations including the American College of Physicians and is the past president of the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America.
Dr. Gross is a long-standing member of the IDSA, having served as a clinical affairs committee member and chairman of their Practice Guidelines Committee and part of their Task Force for Healthcare Reform. Dr. Gross's term as councillor will end in 2002.
