MEDICAL CENTER FOUNDATION MEMBERS DONATE CELEBRITY SCRUBS TO INSTITUTE

Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation members Jerry and Sandy Kissler of Englewood recently donated a set of surgical scrubs hand decorated by television talk show host Rosie O'Donnell to the medical center's Tomorrows Children's Institute for Cancer and Blood Disorders. The Tomorrows Children's Institute is one of the largest and most comprehensive programs for children with cancer in the state. Marvin I. Gottlieb, M.D., Ph.D. of Wyckoff, is chairman of the medical center's Department of Pediatrics. "Jerry and Sandy Kissler are people who think from the heart, and this donation is an example of their compassion for the children we serve here," Dr. Gottlieb said.

The scrubs will be placed on permanent display at the children's center. The scrubs were sold during a silent auction at the medical center's 1999 gala event, "On Track for Healthcare 2000" held at New York City's Grand Central Terminal. Ms. O'Donnell was just one of several celebrities who decorated surgical scrubs to raise money for the Institute for Breast Care at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Mr. and Mrs. Kissler designated their donation "because the scrubs belong to the children of Tomorrows Children's Institute. The institute is doing a wonderful job for children and we wanted to be a part of that effort," the Kisslers said.

Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Robert L. Torre said the Kisslers' gesture is the type of gift that gives hope to both the staff and the children who come for medical treatment at the institute. "The Kisslers have transformed their caring into an act of kindness," Mr. Torre said.
