GOLDEN CHAIN LINKS PERENNIAL
SUPPORT TO MEDICAL CENTER


A charity foundation's continuous commitment to Hackensack University Medical Center has helped foster the growth of one of the most comprehensive evaluation and treatment programs in the nation for children with developmental and behavioral disorders.

With annual gifts since 1984, The Order of the Golden Chain, with members inNew Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, has donated a total of $141,000 to the medical center's Toys "R" Us/Kids "R" Us Institute for Child Development.The institute is a major component of the Department of Pediatrics at Hackensack University Medical Center, where Marvin Gottlieb, M.D., Ph.D. is chairman. With annual gifts since 1984, The Order of the Golden Chain has donated a total of $136,500 to the medical center's Toys "R" Us/Kids "R" Us Institute for Child Development, one of the nation's largest evaluation and treatment programs for infants, children, and adolescents with developmental-behavioral issues.

The institute is a major component of the Department of Pediatrics at Hackensack University Medical Center, where Marvin Gottlieb, M.D., Ph.D. of Wyckoff, is chairman. He also serves as director of the institute. Dr. Gottlieb met recently with members of The Order of the Golden Chain to update the group on current treatment programs and future plans for growth at the institute, which handled nearly 70,000 pediatric visits in 1999.

"The Order of the Golden Chain is a permanent member of the family at Hackensack University Medical Center," Dr. Gottlieb said. "We forge improvements in our programs with consistent support from groups like this."

Members of "The Order" are Master Masons and their female relatives living in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. Bunny Glatt of Bloomfield is the group's Grand Secretary. "Our commitment to the medical center is matched by the dedication of its professionals to helping children with learning disabilities," Ms. Glatt said. The group also raises funds for research in children with cancer and leukemia, and scholarships for the deaf.

Randye F. Huron, M.D. of Tenafly is associate director of the Institute for Child Development. Dr. Huron credited the Order of the Golden Chain as an organization that works consistently in the service of others. "We are indebted to organizations like the Order of the Golden Chain which is selflessly committed to supporting our work," she said.
