Benefactor Constance Schnoll, RN, of Oradell, presented the awards. Mrs. Schnoll began the awards in tribute to the nursing care received by her late husband Bernie, who was aware of and had approved of the scholarship plans before he passed away in July of 2000. “The quality of care, support, and respect my husband received from the administration and nurses was astounding,” said Mrs. Schnoll. “He was never a number at Hackensack University Medical Center, which became our second home during his treatment. I want to acknowledge the entire nursing staff. The dedication they showed toward their patients’ contributed to the inspiration of this scholarship program and we are honored to aid in helping nurses reach their goals.” Mary Ann Donohue, Ph.D., RN, APN, C., of River Vale, administrative director of nursing, psychiatric services, and nursing research at the medical center said, “ We are very grateful that the Schnoll family has chosen to recognize the Magnet nursing care of Hackensack University Medical Center in this generous manner.” In 1995, the medical center became the first hospital in the country – after the pilot program - to receive The Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence. This honor is the highest recognition that can be bestowed by The American Nurses Credentialing Center. The medical center received re-designation as a Magnet Hospital in 1999 and again in 2003. |
