| HACKENSACK UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER MAKES DONATION TO HACKENSACK COMMUNITY In keeping with its commitment to provide a safe and healthy community, Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) recently donated defibrillators to Hackensack High School, Hackensack Middle School, Fairmont School, Fanny M. Hillers School, Jackson Avenue School, and Nellie K. Parker School. Defibrillators are used when an individual goes into cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest triggers a chaotic rhythm or fibrillation that seizes the heart and causes the heart to stop beating. A defibrillator is then used to apply an electric shock to jolt the heart, enabling the normal rhythm to regain control. Defibrillators are life-saving devices that are crucial in reviving an individual going through cardiac arrest. John P. Ferguson, president and chief executive officer of HUMC and Ken Christensen, MICP, clinical coordinator of The Mobile Intensive Care Unit at HUMC, presented the defibrillators to Hackensack Deputy Fire Chief Joel Thorton, Mayor Jack Zisa, and Hackensack Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph Montesano. “It is a true honor to be able to contribute to the safety of this community,” said Mr. Ferguson. “These defibrillators will have a profound affect on the people experiencing cardiac arrest and we are very proud of this donation. Working together, The Hackensack Fire Department and our paramedics will provide proper training which will ultimately save lives.” Hackensack University Medical Center, a teaching and research hospital affiliated with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - New Jersey Medical School is the largest provider of inpatient and outpatient services in the state of New Jersey. |
