MEDICAL CENTER PHYSICIAN HONORED BY THE BERGEN COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY


The Bergen County Medical Society recently inducted George Leipsner, M.D. of Maywood as its president, honoring him with an inaugural reception and dinner at The Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack. The event included attendance by society members, federal, state, and county dignitaries such as Senator Byron Baer (D-37) of Hackensack and Mark T. Olesnitky, M.D. of Florham Park, president of the Medical Society of New Jersey. Both Senator Baer and Senator Gerald Cardinale (R-39) of Cresskill provided Dr. Leipsner with Senate Resolutions.

John P. Ferguson, president and chief executive officer of the medical center sent his well wishes. “We are delighted that Dr. Leipsner will be providing leadership to the Bergen County Medical Society in his new role as president,” said Mr. Ferguson. “George is the right man at the right time.” 

“Dr. Leipsner, I place in your hands the gavel as a symbol of your new role, and promise to support you in every way I can – the future of the society is in good hands,” said Ruth Schultz, M.D. immediate past president of the Society. 

Assemblywomen Rose M. Heck (R-38) of Lodi said, “I am honored to be here, and have been privileged to work with so many of you on common causes for the common good.”

Since 1989, Dr. Leipsner has been serving as chairman of the Department of Family Practice at the medical center. He received his medical degree from the University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and a charter fellow of The American Academy of Family Physicians, as well as a fellow of The Academy of Medicine of New Jersey. Dr. Leipsner is a member of The American Academy of Family Physicians and The World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practioners/Family Physicians (WONCA). He is a member and past president of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians. 

Since 1984, Dr. Leipsner has been serving as president of the Bergen County Chapter of New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians Foundation. He had been serving as president elect for the Bergen County Medical Society since June 2002. He served as chairman of the medical board at the medical center, as well as president of the medical staff. He serves as clinical assistant professor for the Department of Family Medicine at both UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians honored Dr. Leipsner with its 1993 New Jersey Family Doctor of the Year Award, and the 2000 Distinguished Chair Award. Since 1971, he has been serving as physician to the Maywood Police Department. During his time as president of the Jewish Community Center of Paramus, he was responsible for instituting a Homeless Program.

“These are challenging times for medical care in New Jersey, and I am grateful for the physician unity provided by the Bergen County Medical Society,” said Dr. Leipsner. “ The medical center has achieved nationwide acclaim under the leadership of John P. Ferguson and the medical center board. I am proud to be affiliated with an institution that understands patient needs.”
