| TRI-COUNTY HOSPITAL CO-ED SOFTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP EARNED BY MEDICAL CENTER The Tri-County Hospital Co-Ed Softball League has been in existence for more than 20 years, and for the first time, Hackensack University Medical Center’s team has won the league championship. “There were a lot of stand-out individual performances during the season, but I am most proud of the team effort,” said Coach Richard Maciag of Rutherford. Having played on the team for 11 years, he and fellow coach, Meredith Rhode of Prospect Park, are delighted that not only did the team win the league championship, but that the medical center team held the second best overall record of two divisions and second place in its division. The final regular season record was 9-4. The medical center beat The Valley Hospital and Bergen Regional Medical Center during the single elimination playoff games, and won the best of three series versus Englewood Hospital. The Most Valuable Players (MVPs) are Marc Peyko of Lodi and Serena Larsen of Palisades Park. Rookie of the Year is Mikey Dallorso of Bogota. The players on the medical center’s team enjoy a season from May to July and many of them have been involved for years. “Throughout the summer, we came to know one another, not just as co-workers, but as friends,” said Coach Maciag. “ We met each other’s spouses and children, while learning about each other’s job responsibilities and sharing laughs It was great to walk off the field, with my friend’s having won our last game of the year.” The team roster includes medical center personnel from a variety of areas, including coaches: Meredith Rhode of Prospect Park, secretary of the Department of Radiation Oncology; and Richard Maciag of Rutherford, an oncology research pharmacist; and players: Beth Ann Bernaldo of Hawthorne, a CAT scan reservation specialist; Jennifer Sanzari of Hasbrouck Heights, secretary in the Pharmacy Department; Michelle Reilly of Oak Ridge, senior accountant of the Department of Accounting; Serena Larson of Palisades Park, unit clerk on 5 Pavilion West; Lisa Tucci, RN of Haworth, staff nurse in the Reuten Clinic; Team Captain Paul Dallorso of Bogota, security officer; Shannon Russell of Rutherford, assistant trauma registrar; Rose DiBenedetto of Wallington, vascular technician; Michael Giordano of Emerson, manager in the Department of Computer Education; Tom Berges, APN of Highland Mills, NY, transplant clinician; Cindy Strauch, RN of Wyckoff, staff nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU); Darrin Dallorso of Bogota, technician in the Operating Room; Joseph Mazzilli of Wyckoff, operations manager in the Department of Renal Dialysis; James Morales of Maywood, outpatient reservations specialist at The MOLLY Diabetes Center; Rob Pezzillo of Moonachie, security officer; Tom Liebrock of Fair Lawn, CDT resources technician; Michael Lee, RN of New Milford, staff nurse in the Emergency Trauma Department; Mikey Dallorso of Bogota, unit clerk in the Emergency Trauma Department; Marc Peyko of Lodi, oncology pharmacist; and Christopher Bush of Clifton, material system coordinator. Theresa Alaimo of Hackensack, secretary in the Department of Public Relations, has been organizing the league for more than ten years. |
