| HACKENSACK UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER HOSTS STATE MEDICAL HISTORY EXHIBIT “A State of Health: New Jersey’s Medical Heritage” Hackensack University Medical Center is one of the selected exhibit sites for “A State of Health: New Jersey’s Medical Heritage.” It will be on display in Palm Court of Hackensack University Medical Plaza through October 5. The exhibit of more than 150 striking and rarely-seen artifacts, books, manuscripts, photographs, and works of art, drawn from more than 40 collections, invites you to explore the links between New Jersey’s rich medical heritage and your own health. The exhibit will coincide with The 2003 Women’s Health Expo to be held on Saturday, October 4 and hosted by The Donna A. Sanzari Women’s Health Services, Education, Research and Resource Center. Please note that on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5, the exhibit will be located in The Margery S. and Charles J. Rothschild, Jr. Recognition Gallery in the Banta/Main Lobby. “A State of Health” salutes New Jersey’s unique medical history. And includes such highlights as: Lenape remedies, designer drugs, Edison’s fluoroscope, James Still the “Black Doctor of the Pinelands,” Nobel-Prize-winner Selman Waksman, Revolutionary War hospitals, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). Founded in 1888 with 12 beds and as Bergen County's first hospital, Hackensack University Medical Center has demonstrated more than a century of growth and progress. Now a 683-bed, not-for-profit, tertiary-care, teaching and research hospital that serves as the hub of healthcare for Bergen County, northern New Jersey, and New York, the medical center continues to grow in response to the needs of the communities it serves.
