THE SPORTS MEDICINE INSTITUTE HOSTS SEMINAR
“ Losing Our Way in Youth Sports: What Today’s Parents and Coaches Need to Know to Get Back On Track”
The Sports Medicine Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center will host a seminar “Losing Our Way in Youth Sports: What Today’s Parents and Coaches Need to Know to Get Back On Track” on Thursday, October 2 from 7 -8:30 p.m. The seminar, designed by healthcare professionals to help high school coaches, trainers, and parents assist youth will be held in The Hekemian Conference Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, 30 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack. National Strength & Condition Association (NSCA) contact hours will be available. Light refreshments will be served, and complimentary parking is available. Space is limited for this program and registration is required. The cost to attend is $20 per person, $15 per couple, and $10 for students. Rick Wolff of Armonk, NY, former professional baseball player with the Detroit Tigers, will be presenting the lecture. He is a nationally recognized expert in the field of sports psychology and performance enhancement. Mr. Wolff graduated magna cum laude with a degree in psychology from Harvard University and received a master’s degree with high honors in psychology from Long Island University. He is a member of the American Baseball Coaches’ Association, as well as the Association for Advancement of Applied Sports Psychology.
“We are honored to have Mr.Wolff appear to discuss the psychological pressures that accompany America’s passion for sports and hope that parents are able to gain a better understanding from his expertise,” said Jo-Ann Lee RN, BSN of Park Ridge, administrative director of The Sports Medicine Institute at the medical center.
Mr. Wolff has authored 17 books, including “Coaching Kids for Dummies” and “Good Sports: The Concerned Parents Guide to Competitive Sports.” His newest book “The Sports Parenting Edge” is scheduled to be published in Fall 2003. Since 1995, Mr. Wolff’s prescriptive columns on sports parenting have appeared in Sports Illustrated. His articles have appeared in numerous publications such as The New York Times, Sesame Street Magazine, Psychology Today, and Reader’s Digest, among others.
