THE CENTER FOR ALLERGY, ASTHMA & IMMUNE DISORDERS AT MEDICAL CENTER RECEIVES $250,000 DONATION
The Center for Allergy, Asthma & Immune Disorders at Hackensack University Medical Center recently received a $250,000 donation from a patient family who prefers to remain anonymous. The generosity of this family will enable the Center to provide the same quality care to the underserved in the Hackensack community that the family received at the center. The funds have been earmarked to purchase an asthma outreach mobile unit that will provide evaluations, screenings, diagnoses, counseling, (including nutrition, exercise, and education,) as well as treatment to patients with asthma. The outreach programs will be hosted at local school and church sites.
Mary Ann Michelis, M.D. of Tenafly, division chief of Allergy & Immunology and director of The Center for Allergy, Asthma & Immune Disorders and chairman of the medical board said, “ I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to provide much needed respiratory education and services to our Hackensack community.” Plans to support the mobile unit will involve community leaders, medical center staff and volunteers.
Robert L. Torre of Hackensack, vice president of the medical center’s Foundation and chief operating officer said, “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to express our gratitude for this generous donation which will be used to make a difference in asthma prevention for Hackensack residents.”
The Center for Allergy, Asthma & Immune Disorders provides diagnosis, treatment and management for asthma, sinusitis, medication allergies, food allergies, airborne allergies, skin allergies, and immune disorders. These conditions can affect all aspects of one’s life, and the center aims to provide relief in a scientific manner. Individuals whose allergies are unknown or insufficiently treated are predisposed to the development of many medical conditions, including recurrent infections.
