MEDICAL CENTER MAGNET NURSES ATTEND WASHINGTON, D.C. INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Jessica Randaisi, RN of Saddle Brook and Kristen Peterson, RN, BSN of Hawthorne, both Hackensack University Medical Center Magnet nurses who work on the medical/surgical floor of 2 St. John, recently attended the “Nurse in Washington Internship Program.” The internship provides nurses the opportunity to become educated about healthcare legislative and regulatory processes. The nurses had an opportunity to learn firsthand from policy experts and government officials about critical issues such as the national nursing shortage, while networking with nurses from around the country. The medical center nurses met with New Jersey Congressman Steve Rothman (D-9) to discuss the Nurse Re-Investment Act, as well legislative aides from the offices of New Jersey Senators Frank Lautenberg and Jon Corzine. The nurses enjoyed the experience and stressed the importance of lobbying with medical center colleagues upon their return.
