PEDIATRIC RHEUMATOLOGY PATIENTS RECEIVE THE ROYAL TREATMENT AT BEYOND
A group of Hackensack University Medical Center pediatric rheumatology patients recently received an afternoon of pampering at BEYOND, the medical center’s day spa. BEYOND’s staff treated the girls, who ranged in age from 14 to 18, to complimentary make-up applications, manicures, massages, and hair styling. The Pediatric Rheumatology Section within the Department of Pediatrics at The Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital offers ongoing creative arts support groups for children and adolescents. These support groups provide a network of peer support, which is helpful when a child is confronted with a chronic illness that is painful and emotionally damaging.
“Special events, like today, integrate and address therapeutic issues of self-esteem and body image,” said Stephanie Omens, M.A. of Tenafly, Drama Therapist, Child Life/Creative Arts Therapy Services.
