TWELFTH ANNUAL MEDICAL/DENTAL STAFF SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS CEREMONY HELD AT MEDICAL CENTER

The 12th Annual Medical/Dental Scholarship Awards Ceremony was recently held at Hackensack University Medical Center. Educational grants totaling $30,000 were awarded to ten eligible non-physician employees (after one year of employment) or their immediate dependants who are enrolled in an accredited college, junior college, or technical/trade school. More than 100 applications were submitted. An external academic panel comprised of three doctorate professors who, after extensive review of the application, transcripts, GPA, and personal statements, made the selections.

Each scholarship is awarded in honor of an active, retired, or deceased medical/dental staff member who has distinguished him or herself in the medical profession and/or service to the medical center. Arnold Byer, M.D., vice chairman of the Department of Surgery has been coordinating the program since its inception. Since that time, 78 scholarship grants have been awarded.

Each year, family members of the recipients, as well as the honorees, are invited to attend the annual ceremony and dinner.

Dr. Byer said, “It gives me great satisfaction to honor deserving students of devoted employees on behalf of the medical center.”
