MEDICAL CENTER CELEBRATES NATIONAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS) WEEK

Hackensack University Medical Center is once again celebrating National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, May 18-24. This year’s theme is “EMS- When It Matters Most.” The medical center recognizes the work of thousands of men and women who respond to medical emergencies in the surrounding communities, locally and nationally. A welcome banner saluting all providers for their support and cooperation is displayed in the entrance to The Jeffrey M. Creamer Trauma Center. Additionally, the medical center is hosting the Twelfth Annual EMS Excellence Award Program on Wednesday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be, Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney.

John J. LoCurto, Jr. M.D. of Park Ridge, director of the Trauma and Injury Prevention Section at the medical center said, “This event recognizes the unsung heroes that continually support and maintain the well-being of our communities. They give of themselves unselfishly and many times at great risk to their own well being so that our sons, daughters, mothers, and fathers may be given the chance to survive. We host this annual event for this reason to honor them.”

As the state-designated trauma center for Bergen County, the medical center recognizes the vital role played by the county’s first responders, EMS, police, and fire departments. Awards are distributed at the program, based on leadership ability, professionalism, pre-hospital knowledge and recognition for a specific incident in which treatment was instrumental in obtaining a favorable outcome.

Dennis McNerney was elected to the office of Bergen County Executive in 2002 after being twice elected to the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders in 1998 and 2001. He was born and raised in Bergen County, and graduated from Bergen Catholic High School. He attended Bergen Community College, The University of Delaware, and received his masters from Columbia University.
