Distinguished Leaders in the Field of Cardiology
The Cardiology Program at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) has earned accolades for its excellence. With more than 90 attending cardiologists on its Medical Staff, thousands of patients are referred to HUMC each year for cardiac services. Their satisfaction is reflected in the
"Consumer Choice Award for Heart Care Service,"
a survey that was conducted by the independently operated National Research Corporation.
HUMC’s acclaimed Division of Cardiac Services encompasses a full spectrum of care for patients of all ages. Being able to access all of your heart care services (with the exception of heart transplantation) at one prominent institution is an important feature because it assures
continuity of care.
This means that you can depend on HUMC for
whatever you need
— from prevention to recovery, from noninvasive diagnostic testing to cardiac catheterization, from cardiac surgery to cardiac rehabilitation, from clot busters in the ER to open heart surgery in the OR. You can count on our comprehensive and renowned expertise to keep your heart healthy!

Nursing Services and Specialized Nursing Units
Our Nursing Staff has earned the Magnet Hospital Award for Nursing, so named because it creates an environment where all staff members strive to achieve high standards of excellence.
Nursing expertise and specialization are assured with units dedicated to the specific care of the cardiac patient and family. A continuum of care is an important benefit for patients who are assigned to these specialized units based on their changing needs.
All of the Nursing Units on the 4th floor of the Link Pavilion are dedicated to cardiac care. Examples of the specialized care and the continuum of care provided on these units include:
Patients admitted through the Cardiac Day Accommodation Room to undergo interventional procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory are admitted to 4 Link South for specialized follow-up care.
The 4 Link North unit staff specializes in caring for patients who must stay overnight following Electrophysiology studies and/or Pacemaker and ICD implantation, and they also care for transfers from the Coronary Care Unit.
One Charge Nurse manages both the 14-bed Open Heart Recovery Unit and 4 Link West Post-Cardiac Surgery "Step-Down" unit.
All of the above nursing care areas are fully equipped with state-of-the-art monitoring technology at each bedside.
