What is HealthWise Employee Assistance Program?
HealthWise EAP is a service of Hackensack University Medical Center. EAP is a professional assessment, referral, and short-term counseling service offered to employees and their family members with work-related or personal concerns. It is also a resource for supervisors and managers to get help dealing with employees with work performance issues.
What kind of issues can the EAP address?
An EAP counselor can help address a wide variety of concerns including relationship problems, work-related issues, parenting challenges, depression, grief, aging parent concerns, stress, and alcohol or drug use problems.
Who is eligible for EAP services?
Services are available to all employees and their household family members.
What does it cost to use the EAP?
There is no cost to you or your family member to use the EAP If you need help beyond the short-term EAP counseling, your counselor may refer you to another resource. Some outside resources are free, but some are not. Whenever possible we will assist you in finding an appropriate provider through your insurance. You would be responsible for any fees associated with your use of additional resources outside the EAP.
Will anyone know I'm using HealthWise EAP?
HealthWise counseling is strictly confidential. The only exceptions are when you give written permission for others to be informed, or in rare situations in which the law requires others to be informed for reasons of physical safety.
Your employer does not receive any information from the EAP about you. Your employer receives reports detailing how many individuals have used the services, but these reports contain no personally identifying information.
Can my supervisor make me go to the EAP?
No. Supervisors are trained and encouraged to recommend the EAP, especially when they are concerned about work performance problems. However the EAP is voluntary and confidential. The EAP will not disclose any information to the supervisor unless the client signs a written release permitting us to do so.
