To streamline these services, the institute offers: This appointment is for a yearly routine mammogram, which is recommended starting at age 40. Patients receive the results of their screening within one business day, via a telephone call from the institute and by mail. Diagnostic Mammogram. This appointment is for a woman who has experienced breast changes such as a lump, nipple changes, thickening, or has a finding on her screening mammogram. The diagnostic mammogram includes the four routine views, as well as additional views that provide more information regarding the area in question. Your results will be discussed with you before you leave. The Comprehensive Consultation. Patients who have had their screening or diagnostic mammograms at another facility where an abnormality or question has been raised can seek a consultation with a radiologists, surgeons, and pathologists. When the patient calls she will be connected to a nurse liaison, who will obtain a history and streamline services. High-Risk Consultation. We offer a program for women who are at increased risk for developing breast cancer. A tailored plan for ongoing surveillance is created for each patient based upon her risk. These consultations also can include genetic counseling and testing for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes that are associated with breast and ovarian cancers. The Betty Torricelli Institute for Breast Care accepts most major insurance plans, including many managed care and HMO plans. Many of the institute’s services, including mammography, are covered by insurance. If you have any questions about your insurance coverage, please contact your carrier.
