The Anticoagulation Service at Hackensack University Medical Center is dedicated to providing safe and effective management of anticoagulation therapy for patients taking blood-thinning medications. Chief of Electrophysiology
Director of the Pacemaker Center
Director of the Anticoagulation Program

Dr. John Zimmerman serves as the Chief of Electrophysiology at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), a position he has held since 1988. He also serves as the Director of the Pacemaker Center, Director of Cardiac Research, Director of the Heart Rescue Program, and Director of the Anticoagulation Program.
Dr. Zimmerman received his BS degree from Cornell University and his MD degree from New York Medical College. He completed both his internship and residency at North Shore University Hospital, after which he completed two fellowships. His first fellowship was in Cardiology at the University of Michigan; his second fellowship was in Electrophysiology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Prior to coming to HUMC, Dr. Zimmerman’s numerous positions included Associate Director of Electrophysiology at Westchester County Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College. He is a certified Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and has completed subspecialty boards in Cardiovascular Disease and Electrophysiology. Dr. Zimmerman is a published author of numerous scientific publications, abstracts, and research papers.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine/UMDNJ

Dr. Stanley Waintraub serves as the Chief of Hematology and Co-Director of the Anticoagulation Program at Hackensack University Medical Center. He also is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Waintraub received his BS degree Magna Cum Laude from Brooklyn College of CUNY and his MD degree from New York Medical College. He completed both his internship and residency at Metropolitan Hospital Center and then completed two fellowships: Clinical Hematology and Research Hematology at Montefiore Medical Center and Clinical Medical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Waintraub is a certified Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a certified Diplomat of the Subspecialty Boards in Hematology and Medical Oncology. He is a published author of numerous scientific publications, abstracts, and research papers.

Robert Fakelmann, R.Ph., MBA

Robert Fakelmann received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey College of Pharmacy, and his Master of Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has also completed an executive education program at Duke University Fuqua School of Business. Mr. Fakelmann is currently the Administrator for Patient Safety at Hackensack University Medical Center. Prior to that time, he had 18 years of experience as Director of Pharmacy. Additional areas of responsibility include Infection Control, Infectious Disease Research, the Infusion Center, the Hepatitis Center, the Anticoagulation Service, and the HIV/AIDS Program. Currently, he is the Team Leader for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Quantum Leaps in Patient Safety. Mr. Fakelmann is an adjunct Faculty member at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey College of Pharmacy. He is a pharmacy preceptor for both the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy as well as the Rutgers College of Pharmacy and serves on the Advisory Board for Rutgers College of Pharmacy. Mr. Fakelmann is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Pharmaceutical Association, the New Jersey Pharmaceutical Association, and the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists.

Lucy Pasquale earned her masters degree in Nursing Education from New York University, and subsequently completed studies as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Columbia University. She has worked as an Advanced Practice Nurse at the Blood Disorder Center, Overlook Hospital and Pfizer/Warner Lambert Health Services, Morris Plains.
Past academic appointments included Assistant Professor of the Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner Program at the UMDNJ School of Nursing, Adjunct Faculty at both Bloomfield College and Mountainside School of Nursing, and Clinical Preceptor of Advanced Practice Nurses for several nursing programs while at Warner-Lambert/Pfizer Medical Center. She currently serves as the Anticoagulation Service Operations Manager at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC). Lucy is published in the Haemostasis and Thrombosis Journal and is a editorial reviewer for the American Journal of Nursing.

Jennifer Bui, Pharm. D.
Clinical Pharmacist / Cardiology & Critical Care Specialist
Jennifer Bui earned both her Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Science degrees at the University of Maryland. She is a registered pharmacist in both Maryland and New Jersey. Jennifer began her career as a clinical pharmacist for internal medicine/critical care at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Maryland. She began her tenure at Hackensack University Medical Center in 1992. As a cardiology and critical care specialist, her responsibilities include conducting daily rounds in the cardiac and medical intensive care units and making recommendations on individual drug regimens when deemed necessary. Jennifer acts as a liaison between the medical, pharmacy, and nursing staff. She also participates in research studies involving investigational drugs in the areas of critical care and cardiology. Jennifer is an HUMC staff educator, and she also serves as an adjunct assistant clinical professor for pharmacy students from Rutgers and St. John's Universities. She is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, New Jersey Society of Health System Pharmacists, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
